Around the world over the centuries, much has been written about religion, its meaning, its relevance and contribution to humanity. Despite all of this literature continuously being cranked out and the significance of the issue, in the public at large there remains a serious lack of formal and broad education regarding religion and mythology, and most individuals are highly uninformed in this area. Concerning the issue of Christianity, for example, the majority of people are taught in most schools and churches that Jesus Christ was an actual historical figure and that the only controversy regarding him is that some people accept him as the Son of God and the Messiah, while others do not. However, whereas this is the raging debate most evident in this field today, it is not the most important. Shocking as it may seem to the general populace, the most enduring and profound controversy in this subject is whether or not a person named Jesus Christ ever really existed.

This book technically explains where and how religions evolved. I can not stress enough how important the facts are concerning religion and anthropology. Many of us know religion is man-made, "Acharya S." or "Dorothy M. Murdock" breaks it all down and reveals technically, how all the pieces of Religious Superstition fit together!This book provides a well written, coherent, chronological line of religious evolution. It is worth its weight in gold for anyone questioning " how it was Done!!! How ancient fables and laws became powerful through Fear and Superstition of has evolved to the circus we have today concerning Christianity .i.e.;
For example story of "the Christ", "how a super-human deity orchestrated the downfall of early man; subsequently cursed all of mankind, and then offered a solution by having his "super-human son" tortured to death.
"Dorothy M. Murdock" shows how this story and many others are but cobbled together, plagiarized myth and allegory from other ancient religions. It is books like this that tend to challenge beliefs and change lives for the better; free of superstition and fear!
After reading this book you will be fully equipped to challenge your old beliefs as well as the beliefs of all the other religions that have been around since the dawn of man.

As a basis for further research, this book is a good introduction to the monomyth, as explained through Christianity.
While some arguments are a bit thinly defended, it provides much food for thought, and in general, outlines the most widely held lines of commonality throughout the mythos of the ancient world.
One of the most amazing works I have ever stumbled upon. I am a former Muslim and trust me when I say this that I have been searching all over for the right answers. Aliens,magic, you name it. Just about every one of them had their religious beliefs incorporated in them or they twisted things around to fit that belief system. This is it! I plan on purchasing more of her work.
If you want to know more about where religion comes from then read her books.
I was looking for political evidence (or the lack of it). Instead I found an approach that I had considered only tangentially. The author presents an extensive and well researched case for the christian mythology. I was not aware of the number of similar myths and legends. We find similar stories in buddist, hindu, Jewish, Egyptian, and pagan beliefs. For those who find this approach interesting there is an extensive bibiliography. This is a very good introduction to the topic.
Much of what is written in ~Origins can be found in other sources such as Karen Armstrong's "History of God" which describes the commonality of many pagan myths and their reiteration in many of the teachings of Christianity. The tone of the writing Murdock employs might appeal to individuals with an axe to grind but as a reference to show how many religions from the Egyptians through the Greeks and Romans and various Eastern religions share a commonality I think the "History of God" shows better scholarship. The advantage of ~Origins is that it can be read in one sitting.
very interesting read. Murdock doesn't believe that Jesus ever existed. I won't say that he did or didn't. I lean to the belief that he did but I don't believe that he was the son of God anymore than I am a son of God. I learn a lot by studying all the beliefs along with the study of science and evolution. D.M.Murdock also writes under the name Acharya S. She passed away on December 25, 2015 but she wrote several books and made several videos before she died. Another good book of hers is Christ in Egypt and The Christ Conspiracy.
This is a very short book in which D. M. Murdock draws a strong correlation between the Story of Jesus and myths that preceded it such as Buddha in China, Horus in Egypt, and Mithra in Persia. Murdock notes that historians at the time of Jesus were totally unaware of Jesus and his amazing miracles. The only information that we have on Jesus comes from Christian sources. Based on this, Murdock concludes that Jesus never existed! Given the conclusion, if you are a Christian, you will find this book unsettling. If you are a non-Christian, the book will confirm your views on Christianity. (For the record, it should be noted that D. M. Murdock is a she - not a he).
